“Queer time, even as it emerges from the AIDS crisis, is not only about compression and annihilation; it is also about the potentiality of a life unscripted by the conventions of family, inheritance, and child rearing” Jack Halberstam

The Walthamstow and Leyton marshes are a wild space that sit between the city and historic water reserves. With traditions still in place that date back to when Hackney was well known for farming and gardening, it’s now a queer friendly spot, popular for cruising, wrestling and foraging.

Over Summer, the marsh gave participants of this project a portal, to reflect on how they experience time differently. Driven by a lack of LGBTQIA+ stories in history books, what developed was a series of portraits and stories about living outside of homogenous timelines and switching between queer and straight temporalities.
